The State of the Church.
I have filled all my appointments this year, preached some 44 sermons, held class meeting
some 7 times, held some church conferences, some prayer meetings. Led in S. S.
several times, organized one S. S. One woman's missionary society of 22 members at
Bewleyville. We have some class meeting and prayer meetings on our work. Our
congregations have been better this year than any time during the year. We feel
encouraged to press on with the work. We look back and see what advancements we have
made since last Oct. all along the line, and we take fresh courage, and press on to know
more of the Lord. Received in the church since last year by baptism, Eula Stith, A.
S. Hendricks, May Northern, La Rue Cox. By Certificate, Martha Hardaway.
Infants baptized, Mary Cain, Leah Meador. Dismissed by
certificate, Bettie Cain. Died, removed, withdrawn, expelled - None. The
spiritual state of the church is better than last year, but we are praying for more Holy
Ghost power on the church that we may see sinners convicted, mourners converted, believers
sanctified, and the church moving forward.
G. F. Cundiff
A. Sunday Schools and Pastoral Instruction of Children.
We have 4 Methodist S.S. in our own churches, and one in union house. We use our
literature and the Supt. and Assistant Supt. are Methodists. And some of the
officers and teachers are Methodists; so it is almost and Methodist school. The
state of said schools are good. The school at Mays Grove, where we had not had a
school for 10 or 12 yrs is very well attended, with a great deal of interest manifested,
and had Children's Day which was well attended. We have quite a number of children
at Howell's in school; and good interest among those who attended every Sunday.
Children's Day was a success, though not so many present on account of the rain on the 3rd
Sunday in June, which put it off till the 4th Sunday afternoon in June. The S.S. at
Bewleyville is doing very well. Well attended, and conducted well. Children's
Day was a success. The S. S. at Big Spring hasn't the number of children as the
other schools but the interest is as good as any of them. The S.S. at Liberty has
only been at work a short time, but quite a number attend and the school is doing
well. The general state of the schools are good. God bless the S.S.
work. During the present year I have paid some 30 pastoral visits and talked with
the children on the subject of religion and prayed for them around the family altar asking
the Lord by his Holy Spirit to lead them to seek first the kingdom of God and his
righteousness. I have preached to the children several times during the year, and
have made it a point to meet with the S.S. as often as possible, and instruct the children
in reference to early piety. May the Lord bless the children.

heart. "For blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God."

Sunday Schools and Pastoral Instruction of Children.
We had six Sunday Schools last summer, but all save one went into winter quarters early in
the fall. The school at Bewleyville will be continued through the winter. This
school is doing very well, considering that quite a number of the pupils live in the
country and when the roads are bad they cannot attend so well as when the roads are good.
Bro. Jolly is the superintendent and he seems to have the S. S. interest at heart,
and has made a very wise selection in teachers; has good teachers to assist him in his S.
S. work. They also have a good choir to lead in the singing which adds very much to
the school. In addition to this they have a good try society, so many of them answer
perfect every Sunday. So we are led to believe the word of God is read by them.
I can report said school as doing very well.
I have paid 34 visits this quarter and prayed with the families and
talked to the children about being religious early in life. May God Bless the
Children.

State of the Church.
I have filled all my appointments this quarter but one, and have attended to ten funerals,
and held one protracted meeting. So I have preached 46 times during the
quarter, held some class meetings, some prayer meetings, several church conferences.
We have only two prayer meetings kept up through the winter; one class meeting one
woman's missionary Society and all these kept by the class at Bewleyville. We have
received one in the church this quarter - received after baptism into full connection.
Dismissed by certificate - Hugh Hardaway. Expelled none. Lost by death
five - Thomas Pawley, Bettie Leslie, Ozzie Moorman, J. H. Stith, Sister Ballie. All
of them were members at Howells church save one - Bro. Ozzie Moorman was a member of Mays
Grove class. All died in peace with God. Our loss has been great this quarter,
but our loss has been their eternal gain. From their lives, and the evidence they
left before they passed away. We pray the Lord to bless and sustain the bereft.

Report on number and state of Sunday Schools.
We have four Sunday Schools, and all use our literature published at
Nashville, Tenn. The school at Mays Grove, superintended by Bro. Clyde Stith, I am
informed is doing very well. I have not had an opportunity of meeting with that
school. The school at Big Spring, superintended by Bro. Penick, is a good
school. I have met with this school once a month for some time, and also preached to
the children once a month at that place; and I am prepared to say that the school is doing
well. The school at Howells, superintended by Bro. Thomas Stith is moving along very
well. Tolerably good attendance, and good being accomplished. The school at
Bewleyville, superintended by Bro. Jolly, has been continued all the year, and is doing
very well.
I report the state of the above schools good, and pray that the Lord
may bless and prosper the S. S. work.
Pastoral instruction of children
I have paid some visits this year, and prayed and instructed the
children to be religious early in life, for we are commanded to seek first the kingdom of
God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.

B.
State of the Church.
We have five appointments on the Big Spring
circuit, and about 375 members. Preaching at four of the appointments one Saturday
and Sunday in each month. After preaching on Saturday at eleven o'clock, we usually
have a little class meeting or church conference. And our class meeting is always
attended with a baptism of the Holy Ghost. We have a weekly prayer meeting, and
class meeting once a month, at one of the classes held by the brethren. The people
attend church on Sunday very well and listen to preaching. Do not attend at all the
classes so well on Saturday; yet we have some appointments where our Saturday appointment
is very well attended. We have quite a number of family altars on our work.
The largest number of our people seem to be spiritually minded. I have had no
protracted meetings this year, but have arranged to protract at all the classes,
commencing the last of July and continuing through the months of Aug. and Sep.
Received in the church this year by certificate, Susan Miles. Baptized five infants,
Susan Rachel Pawley, Levely Chauncy Pawley, Willis Burly Pawley, Essie Lona Hough, S. W.
Conaway, Withdrawn, one, Richardson [marked out]. Removed one by certificate; D. H.
Beatty. Died two: Mary Snyder, member of Bewleyville Class; Bro. Sandy Casey,
member of Big Spring class; died at Cloverport. The spiritual state of the
church work tolerably good.

Report on number and state of Sunday Schools.
We had two Sunday Schools after Conference, and during Oct., Nov., and
Dec. Since then we have but one, and that failed to meet the first Sunday in this
month on account of not having S. S. literature on hand so as to supply the school.
I insisted on them not to let their school go into winter quarters after going through two
winters, and now in the third winter, and second month of the winter, and had been
successful through these winter months.
I will expect the school at Bewleyville to be continued through the
year with some success. The school at Big Spring closed in the month of Dec. to
commence next April; had a very good school up to the time they went into winter quarters.
This is the state of the Sunday Schools we report this quarter.
Pastoral instruction of children.
I have visited 53 different families this quarter and had prayer with
them, and when I had the opportunity of doing so, instructed the children to be religious,
may the Lord prosper us in all our work. G. F. Cundiff.

Report on general state of the church.
The spiritual condition of the work is not what we desire to see at all
the classes. Some have been greatly revived during this quarter. We have had
only one protracted meeting during the quarter. We had a District Holiness
Convention at Bewleyville, but did not protract as we expected. Our protracted
meeting at this place resulted in about forty conversions, and thirty additions to our
church, and the church revived to some extent. I have preached quite a number of
sermons this quarter, and held some prayer meetings and class meetings. We have some
very good prayer meetings and class meetings on the work. I have received
into the church in full connection according to Discipline, thirty five names.

Report on number and state of Sunday Schools.
I can report this quarter three Sunday Schools. One at Howells, one at Big
Spring, and one at Bewleyville. The school at Bewleyville continued through the
winter. The school at Howells and at Big Spring opened the fifth Sunday in April
with a very encouraging prospect for a good school at each place; the best they have had
for years.
The people seem to have the S. S. work at heart. In the word of
God we read, "the hearts of the fathers are turned to the children, and the hearts of
the children to their fathers." This seems to be true in our S. S. work.
The school at Bewleyville moves in the right line winter and summer. So we report
three good Sunday Schools this quarter. The state of these schools are good.
Pastoral instruction of children.
I have paid more visits this quarter than any quarter during the year.
Have talked and prayed with the children, and have witnessed the conversion of some

Report on Epworth Leagues
We have one League to report that was organized last spring at
Bewleyville. This League holds their Business & Literary Meetings on Saturday
night before the first Sunday in each month. Have two Devotional meetings during the
month and Friday night before the fourth Sunday in each month for the study of the Bible.
Officers of League are W. H. Cain, Jr., President. Mrs. Sallie
Cain, Misses Blanche Jolly and Lena Drury, vice-presidents. Fletcher Blanford,
Secty. Roy J. Cain, Treasurer. This League has 32 members, and for their
motto, "Rich in 'Good Works'". I am convinced from what I have witnessed
and heard that they are doing first class work. Rev. R. W. Browder, was with the
League last Saturday night, and he said it was one of the best Leagues in the Louisville
Conference. Their work from Mch. 3rd to June 30th inclusive was the twenty five
articles of Religion. Since then they have had the following topics - August - The
Reformation; September - Missions; October - Temperance; November - Methodism; The topics
for Bible reading - August, Daniel; September, The Judges of Israel; October - Saul and
David; I have given you an outline of what this League is doing. We believe the
state of the League good.
Report on Sunday-Schools
We have two schools - one at Bewleyville, and one at Big Spring, which
are doing well, and are very well attended. Good superintendents and good teachers
at each place. So the state of said schools we report good.
Pastoral instruction of children.
I have paid a few visits this quarter and always make it my business to
pray with the families and pray especially for the children and then talk to them about
being religious early in life. I believe God has blessed me in this pastoral work,
for I have witnessed the conversion of quite a number of children. May God bless us
as a church, in trying to save the children. G. F. Cundiff, P. C.

class twice a week. And out of five classes, four have class meeting once a month.
We think we can see some advancement spiritually at all the classes. Our
congregations are larger, and better attention is given to the preaching of the Word.
The prospect is encouraging for a prosperous year in saving souls. I have
received in the Church this quarter on professions of faith, six. Eula Davis, Maggie

Report on Epworth Leagues
The Epworth League at Bewleyville from what I can see and hear has done
a great deal of good in getting the young people to work. They are working well and
I can report the Bewleyville Epworth League doing well.
Report from President and secty. verbally:
Report on number and state of Sunday-schools.
We have two Sunday-schools - One at Big Spring,
and one at Bewleyville, which during the months of Oct., Nov., and part of Dec. have done
good work. As I have not had an opportunity of meeting with either school since the
first of Dec., I cannot give the state of said schools, this quarter, as I would like.
Pastoral instructions of children.
I have made but few visits this quarter, and
have met with only a few children. I always say something to the children, and when
I have the chance, instruct them to be religious. God bless the children. G.
F. Cundiff, P. C.

Report on the general state of the church.
The spiritual condition of the church we believe to be right good.
I believe we are on the upgrade, and pressing forward to higher attainments in the
Christian life. Good congregations, and the people listen well to preaching.
We have good prayer meetings, which are well attended, and the class meetings are among
the best meetings we have. We have now six appointments on the work. I failed
to get to three of my appointments during the month of January on account of sickness in
my family. I regret very much having at any time to miss an appointment, but in case
of affliction, I am always reconciled. I have held no protracted meetings this
quarter. Commenced one, but owing to the cold weather, closed the third day.
We had a fine prospect for a good revival, could we have continued the meeting.
Received into the church, none, Dismissed by certificate, four. Emily Cox, Mollie
Cox, Emmie Cox, Hume Jones. Expelled none. Died three. Georgie Lischer,
William Shumate, J. Galloway. Baptized three infants. Mary D. Brunner, John W.

Report on Epworth Leagues.
We have one Epworth League on the circuit. Chapter 1009, held at
Bewleyville. Total numbers of members 31. Officers, 6. Held this
quarter, ten religious services, three social businesses and literary meetings. All
these meetings have been well attended and have proved to be of great benefit to the young
people of Bewleyville, and to the church. Their Devotional meetings are spiritual.
I have been with them in their Business and literary meetings, and in their
Devotional meetings and have enjoyed them very much. They are all good meetings.
Number and state of Sunday schools. We have three
schools that are doing good work. And one that we do not report altogether Methodist
for it is a school-house and two denominations work there. They do not use Methodist
literature in full, but in part.
The S. S. at Bewleyville is doing a grand work.
I believe it is the best school we have ever had at that place. I know it is
the best since I have been pastor of the church. The S. S. at Big Spring is well
attended, well constructed and is doing a good work. It is the best school we have
had at that place for four years.
The school at Howells opened this spring with
the best prospect for a good school that we have had since I have had charge of the work.
The present state of all the schools are good.
Pastoral instruction of children. I have
paid a good many pastoral visits this quarter. Prayed with families, and instructed
the children to be religious early in life - not to put off such an important matter as
salvation - that religion is worth every thing else - that it is the only thing that will
sustain, or give comfort in death. I have instructed the children in S. S. to be
religious, as well as at their homes. I have to talk to the children about being
good and loving their Savior.
May the Lord help me to preach to the children,
as well as the grown people.
G. F. Cundiff, P.C.
B.
Report on general state of the church.
We now have six appointments but only five
classes. We have no class at Irvington, but expect to organize there between
now and Conference. Thought it best to hold a protracted meeting at that place
before organizing. I have been able to fill all my appointments this quarter, and
have had large and very attentive congregations at most of the appointments. The
people seem willing to hear the Gospel; there has been some improvement along this line at
all the appointments. I am led to believe we are making some spiritual
progress. We have four good prayer meetings on the work; these are very well
attended, and are held weekly. Quite a number lead in prayer in these meetings.
We have four regular class-meetings, and then I hold class nearly every month at
all the classes. So we have quite a number of members that will stand up as living
witnesses for Christ. We have held some good church conferences this quarter.
We have a Missionary society at Bewleyville, and one at Big Spring. Both of which
are doing well. These Societies have been a great help to our good women. We
have held one protracted meeting since last quarter, and had several conversions.
And the Church to some extent revived. Received in the church this quarter
three. Two in full connection, Annie Johnson, Nannie Gross. One on profession
of faith - Lina Rigsby.
I baptized one infant Beverley C. Cundiff.
Removed, withdrawn, expelled, none. Died, one - Bro. George Borders; died the 8th
day of May, 1895 in the faith of the Gospel with a bright hope of immortality. He
sleeps in Jesus.
G. F. Cundiff, P.C.

Report on Missions.
Preached on the subject of foreign missions this quarter, and
circulated some missionary literature.
Report on Church extension.
Presenting the claim of church extension and asking the people to give for this
purpose.

The Epworth League at Bewleyville has been doing good work for more than a year, and is
not weary in well doing. So the League at Bewleyville is alive to every good work
and the fruits of said League are to be seen in the class meetings and Sunday School.
May the Lord prosper the Epworth League at Bewleyville. G. F. Cundiff
Number and state of Sunday Schools.
We have three Methodist schools and the state of said schools we believe to
be good. The school at Big Spring has a good superintendent. One who knows how
to manage a Sunday school so as to make a success of it. Officers, teachers and
scholars all work well with the superintendent.
The school at Bewleyville conducted by Bro. Jolly has accomplished a great
deal of good in the last four years . As a superintendent, he has been faithful and
true, and conducts his school so as to command the respect of all who attend. His
teachers and scholars work in harmony with him.
The school at Howells church superintended by Bro. Smith, has been better
attended this summer than common. Bro. Smith has full command of his school, and the
teachers and scholars are all in harmony with their superintendent.
We have in all the schools about 33 officers and teachers, and about 190
scholars and have spent about $22.00 for literature. G. F. Cundiff
Pastoral instructions of children I paid quite a number of visits

am glad to report that some of the children have found Christ during the year.
Others are seeking the Lord. God bless the children. G. F. Cundiff.
