AN INFORMAL REVIEW OF MY LIFE SINCE 1948

My life has been a life of change in many ways.  College was interrupted by WWII naval service from 1942 to 1945.  After graduation in 1948 I taught Vocational Agriculture.  My next work was in Agricultural Finance with the Farmers Home Administration.  Following this I was with the Ohio Valley National Bank of Henderson, Ky, managing 16,000 acres of farm land for the Trust Department.  To further my banking career I worked with Mercantile Trust of St. Louis in Correspondent Banking.

Then, wanting to return to Kentucky, my wife, Alice and I organized the Citizens Bank of Elizabethtown where I served as President.  We also purchased control of the Farmers Bank of Hardinsburg.  Later I went to Frankfort where I organized the Division of Marketing Development within the Commerce Cabinet, and served as its Director.

During the Farm Financial crisis of the 80's I worked with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation in the Bank Liquidation Division.  After retirement from government service I entered the investment field with Edward D. Jones Company of St. Louis, with an office in Elizabethtown, Ky.

Since retiring from the investment business, I have devoted a great deal of my time to caring for our 500-acre family nature preserve on the Ohio River by Otter Creek Park.  This is a diverse woodland of springs, a creek, several ponds, both old and new growth timber and an abundance of wildlife including bobcats, wild turkeys, deer, and smaller animals, and numerous plant species, some of which are endangered.

Other facets of our life have included working with the Partners of the Americas, a stint with the International Executive Service as an advisor to the Mexican Banking System, an eight year term with the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church in New York as Chair of their Investment Committee, and travel to such diverse areas of the world as the Congo, China, Russia and most of Europe and Latin America.   Alice, who is an Ordained United Methodist Minister, and I have served the mission field in areas in third world countries with the Volunteers in Mission Program.

Our five children, ranging in age from 55 to 40 years of age and nine grandchildren, are still a close-knit family unit, with a love of nature and service to others.
