Hardin Whelan, 92, of Flaherty, Ky., died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011, at the North Hardin Health & Rehabilitation Center, in Radcliff, Ky.
Mr. Whelan was a member of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, Flaherty, Ky. He was
also a veteran of the United States Army having served in WWII. He was preceded in death
by his parents, Fank and Alvia Hardin Whelan; one brother, Leroy "Doe" Whelan;
four sisters, Beatrice Quinn, Mildred Wells, Frances Dunn, Floella Tucker; and a
granddaughter, Michelle
Caaday Vaughan.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Irene Whelan of Flaherty, Ky.; three children, Wayne Whelan and his wife June of Paducah, Ky., Carolyn Canaday and her husband Glenn, of Vine Grove, Ky., and Angela Whelan McKenzie of Nicholasville, Ky.; six grandchildren, Chris Canady, Pam Tonini and her husband Sergio Karen Nolcox and her husband Tony, Ryan McKenzie, Allison McKenzie, Matthew McKenzie, six great-grandchildren, William Vaughan, Evan Vaughan, Gabe Nolcox, Ethan Nolcox, Siena Tonini, Simone Tonini; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A mass of Christian burial was held 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011, at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church Flaherty, Ky., with Rev. A.L. Chandler officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Martin church cemetery.
Visitation was from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18 2011, and after 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011, at the Coffey & Chism Funeral Home, Vine Grove, Ky. A prayer service was held at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, 2011, at the funeral home.
