"HIGH GROUND CEMETERY" AT HILL GROVE
Sincere thanks to Mrs. Harriett (Fast) Scott, of McLean, Virginia, who sent the following
information on the "High Ground" Cemetery at Hill Grove to Audrey
(Fisher) Stith in early July 1992.
In November 1930 Mrs. Byron M. Fast, Mrs. Guy Hardin and Mrs. Bernice Price went to the,
"High Ground" Cemetery and the Meadville Cemetery and copied all the information
on each grave in order to obtain a list of the people buried there. According to Mrs.
Fast's information, at each cemetery, there was set aside a portion for the slaves. Many
of the slave's graves are marked by stones without inscriptions or initials of any kind.
They did not copy the slave's section in either cemetery, only the white folks side.
Mrs. Fast, who is the mother of Harriett Scott, then compiled the following list of graves
at "High
Ground" Cemetery.
