Mrs. Carra Scott

Mrs. Carra D. Scott, 73 years old, known as the "Mother of Farm Bureau in Boone County," died unexpectedly at 2:45 am., February 12, 1968 at Witham Hospital, where she was admitted about 12 hours earlier after suffering a heart attack at her home in Lebanon.  She became ill after returning home from church.

Mrs. Scott, the widow of H. Winfield Scott, former prominent Boone County farmer, had virtually "lived" Farm Bureau since coming to this county in Indiana in 1922 from Kentucky.  She was first township leader in Jackson Township and went on to become County Social and Educational Leader, later termed Woman's Leader.  She served in this capacity for over 30 years, her knowledge, services and counseling being invaluable.  This post carried many responsibilities and diversified work and she also was on the County Farm Bureau of Directors, working in all facets of endeavors, particularly on the membership drive.  In addition, she was secretary of the administrative committee which operates the Farm Bureau Insurance Office.

A very capable, remarkable and astute woman, she also was a dedicated member of the Advance Methodist Church where she had served as church pianist for many years and was active in other church affairs.  Her interests also centered around her family including her grand-children.  Her host of friends admired and respected her for her understanding, compassion and many kindnesses.

A native of Kentucky, she was born January 24, 1895, the daughter of John and Carra (Drury) Frakes.  She was, married October 29, 1914 to H. W. Scott, who passed away December 25, 1965.  The family resided on a farm south of Advance 22 years, after which they moved to a farm two and one half miles northeast of Lebanon.  In the past several years Mrs. Scott had made her home with her daughter in Lebanon.

Surviving are the daughter, Mrs. Robert Poynter, of 710 Syracuse Drive; a son Charles W. (Bud) Scott of Lebanon, four grandchildren and one great grandchild.  A sister died in infancy and one grand child preceded her in death.

Last rites were at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Russell and Hitch Funeral home with interment following in Oak Hill Cemetery.  Rev. Wayne Kivett, minister at the Advance Methodist Church officiated.

Mrs. Scott was born in Brandenburg, and was a niece of the late Mrs. W. A. Stith. Sr.
