Jeannette Lee Harned Stith

Jeannette Lee Harned Stith, 85, formerly of Custer and Radcliff, died Saturday, April 7, 2007, at North Hardin Health & Rehabilitation Center in Radcliff.

She was born on April 18, 1921, in Breckinridge County to Hubert Lee and Mollie Frances Dyer Harned. She married Willard Lewis Stith on Nov. 20, 1937, and they had 54 years together before he passed away on Oct. 21, 1991. In 1966, she started the Harned Homecoming on the site of the Custer Methodist Church. She was dedicated to the memory of her ancestors and family that had done so much for Custer. She continued to have the homecomings until this past year.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Franklin Etheridge Stith; and a brother, Delano Dyer Harned.

Survivors include her children, Lewis Leon Stith and Virginia of Kell, Ill., Willard Larry Stith and Sonja of Milner, Ga., Garry Lewis Stith and Grace of Surfside Beach, S.C., Willnetta Stith Lewis and Danny of Sun City, Fla., Annetta Stith Martin and Rois of Jackson, Ga., and Emma Stith Marcum and Fred of Custer; seven grandchildren, Michelle Louk, Garry “Butch” Stith, Kenneth Mattingly, Tonya Wilbur, Chuck Marcum, Larry Marcum and Maura Gerard; and nine great-grandchildren, Christa, Brianna and Cheyenne Stith, Jordyn Mattingly, Kiegan Wilbur, Lucy Marcum, Nicholas Marcum and Nicholas and Emily Gerard.

The funeral was Tuesday at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home in Hardinsburg with interment in Custer Cemetery. Pallbearers were Kenneth Mattingly, Chuck Marcum, Larry Marcum, Dale Wilbur, Lyndall Harned and Michael Harned. Honorary pallbearers were Tonya Wilbur and Garry “Butch” Stith.
