William Alexander Hobbs, 96, of Ekron, died Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2011, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown. He was a lifelong resident of Meade County where he farmed. He was a lifelong member of St. Martin of Tours Church. For many years William was a member of the Board of Directors of Farmers Bank in Vine Grove.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Anita Greenwell Hobbs; two infant sons, Joseph Michael and Thomas Alexander Hobbs; his parents, William Herbert and Anna Valleria Hamilton Hobbs; his sister, Anna Cecilia Woolet; and a brother, Thomas Edward Hobbs.

He is survived by eight children, Bill and Sandy Hobbs of Brandenburg, Beatrice and Dr. Charles Filburn of Forrest Hill, Md., Rita and Dr. Robert Robbins of Elizabethtown, Dr. Charlene Sullivan and Dr. Ken Harling of West Lafayette, Ind., Kenneth and Gayle Hobbs of Louisville, Paul and Susan Hobbs and Bernard and Jennifer Hobbs, all of Ekron, and Lucille and Tom Granacher of Florence; 23 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian burial is at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 8, at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Flaherty with the Rev. Kevin Bryan officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A prayer service is at 7 p.m. Sunday at Nelson-Edelen-Bennett Funeral Home in Vine Grove. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and continues at 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
